1. When is account closure allowed?
You can request account closure only during the following windows:
- Trading days: After 4:00 PM (post market hours)
- Non-trading days (weekends & exchange holidays): Anytime during the day
Account closure is not permitted during market hours to avoid settlement, order, and position conflicts.
2. Why is account closure blocked during market hours?
During market hours:
- Orders can be placed or modified
- Positions can open or close
- Margins and balances keep changing
To ensure a clean and final closure, the system allows closure only when the market is closed.
3. What checks are performed before allowing account closure?
The system verifies the following:
- Outstanding debit balance
- Credit balance availability
- Account modification status
- Pledged shares
- Trades executed today
- Open positions
- Open orders
- Deposits made today
- Withdrawals in progress
- Monthly settlement status
If any of these checks fail, account closure will be blocked.
4. I have an outstanding debit balance. What should I do?
What it means: You owe money to the broker.
What you need to do: Clear the full debit amount.
Accounts with unpaid dues cannot be closed due to regulatory requirements.
5. I have a credit balance. Why can’t I close my account?
What it means: You still have funds in your trading account.
What you need to do:
- Withdraw the entire credit balance
- Wait for the withdrawal to complete
Special Case:
- If wallet balance is between Rs -1 to +1, closure is allowed.
- For amounts between Rs 1–100, user can withdraw during closure journey. Account will close once money reaches user’s bank account.
Only after your balance becomes zero can you proceed.
6. I have an account modification request in progress. What does this mean?
Examples:
- Email or mobile number change
- Bank account update
- Nominee addition/modification
What you need to do:
- Wait for the modification to complete
- Retry account closure afterward
Closure cannot proceed while any profile change is pending.
7. I have pledged shares. Why is closure blocked?
What it means: Some holdings are pledged (usually for margin).
What you need to do:
- Unpledge all shares
- Ensure unpledge request is completed
Once no pledged shares remain, restart closure flow.
8. I traded today. Why can’t I close my account?
What it means: You executed trades today.
Why blocked: Trades require end-of-day settlement.
What you need to do:
- Ensure no open positions remain
- Retry next trading day
9. I have open positions. What should I do?
- Close all open positions
- Ensure zero positions across segments
Closure is allowed only when there are no open positions.
10. I have open orders. Why does this matter?
- Cancel all open orders
- Wait for cancellation confirmation
All orders must be closed before proceeding.
11. I deposited money today. Why can’t I close my account?
What it means: Deposit is still under settlement.
- Wait until deposit is fully settled
- Withdraw funds
- Retry closure afterward
Same-day deposits cannot be reversed during closure.
12. I have a withdrawal in progress. What should I do?
- Wait for withdrawal completion
- Ensure account balance becomes zero
Closure is blocked until withdrawal finishes.
13. What is “monthly settlement in progress”?
Your account is undergoing scheduled settlement.
- Wait for settlement completion
- Retry afterward
No action required from your side.
14. I have holdings in my demat account. Can I close my account?
No. You must transfer holdings before closing.
Options available:
- Transfer holdings
- Manage holdings
- Keep account
15. How do I transfer my holdings?
You must provide:
- Depository (CDSL / NSDL)
- Receiving Demat Account Number
- BO ID
- Client Master Report (CMR) from receiving broker
The CMR must:
- Be issued by receiving broker
- Match entered demat details
- Be uploaded in PDF format
16. What is a Client Master Report (CMR)?
A CMR is an official document confirming your demat account ownership, depository details, and broker information. It ensures holdings are transferred correctly.
17. My CMR upload failed. What should I check?
- File format is PDF
- Details match demat information
- Password (if any) entered correctly
You can re-upload if needed.
18. What happens after holdings are transferred?
Once all holdings are transferred, your account will be closed. The CMR must be valid, signed, sealed, and in your name. If discrepancies are found, closure request will be rejected.
19. How do I complete final account closure?
- Review closure confirmation
- Complete eSign using Aadhaar OTP
- Submit request
This permanently closes your account.
20. Can I cancel account closure midway?
Yes. You may choose “Keep account” at multiple stages. No changes occur unless final eSign is completed.
21. What happens after my account is closed?
- Trading and demat accounts are permanently closed
- You cannot trade or access account data
- You cannot open a new account for 30 days
22. I’m stuck and can’t proceed. What should I do?
- Read the on-screen blocker message
- If issue persists, contact support with displayed message
