Muhurath trading is an auspicious trading day in the Indian stock market. It is held during Diwali, specifically on the day of Lakshmi Pooja on 20th Nov 2025. It is believed that purchasing something of value, such as gold, financial assets, or anything on this special day, is considered to enrich the future. The Muhurat trading session is held for an hour from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The regular trading sessions are closed, and only Muhurat trading is held for an hour. The Operation timings of BSE
The BSE operates weekdays from Monday to Friday, 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM. It pre-opens sessions from 9:00 AM to 9:15 AM, i.e., for only 15 minutes. The Market remains closed on Saturday and Sunday. The BSE opens for a total of 06 hours and 15 minutes daily. Investors can trade continuously without any restrictions during this period. The pre-open sessions consist of an Order Entry period and an Order Matching period. The post-trading session starts at 3:30 PM and ends at 4:00 PM. During this time, the investors can place orders to buy or sell at the closing price. The closing price is calculated from 3:30 PM to 3:40 PM based on the weighted average stock prices traded between 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM. After-market orders take place from 3:40 PM to 4:00 PM; at this time, the bidding will take place for the next trading day.
Block Deal Session
The morning session starts from 8:45 AM to 9:00 AM, and in the afternoon, from 2:00 PM to 2:20 PM. Only institutional players, such as insurance companies, banks, or mutual funds, participate in this deal as it involves transactions with large quantities or values of shares. During this time, minimum transactions of 5,00,000 shares or shares worth at least Rs. 10 crore are traded. It takes between two parties off the open market through negotiated deals.
After-hour trading
After-hours trading is making investments or trading after the closure of regular trading hours. The time for After-hour trading starts from 4:00 PM to 8:55 AM. Here, you get a chance to place an order even though the stock exchange market closes for the day.
